20MAR20 - Free School Meal update

20th March 2020

Letter to parents and carers of FSM children Dear Parent/Carer,

We wrote to you last week, giving you guidance as to whether your child/children would be in school or at home in the coming weeks, following Government guidance.

It has always been our hope and intention to make sure that all Free School Meal children continue to get a hot school meal every day. For those of you that got a letter saying we expected to see your child in school we will therefore be feeding them during their school day with us. For those familes where children are not in school we have asked for Easy Lunch to therefore provide a hot meal for each FSM child, served in a take away container.

We are required to work on having as few a members of staff in school at any one time, in order to maintain the Government’s guidance on social distancing. Therefore, if your child is not in school but is elgible for a FSM we really need your help with them getting their food! We need you to come and collect your meal/s from school between 11.30 and 12.15 each day.

If you would struggle to come and collect a meal please ring the school office (01293 534897) to discuss this. We may be able to deliver, but this is not a guarantee.

If you are unable to leave your house, as you and your family are self isolating, then there are two options:

1) You nominate a friend to come and collect the hot lunch for you. Please let the school know who is picking this up for you.

2) You let the school know you are self-isolating and do not have anyone to collect the food for you. If this is the case, then we will endeavour to deliver to your house.

If you need to ring the school to talk to us about your food being being delivered please make sure you do this by 10.00am in the morning by phone on 01293 534897, this includes those families who we delivered to last week.

We have been very lucky to have a group of volunteers helping us deliver meals today. However, as the Government guidance of social distancing develops and changes this may not be possible. With only a small number of people to help with deliveries we can not get round to the 140 FSM children we have in school. Therefore, if we have tried to deliver to your house and you were not in we will not be returning. Additionally, unless you ring and tell us that you have no way of getting the hot meals your child/children who are eligible to have them then we will not be delivering to you.

Thank you in advance for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all again.

Yours sincerely.

Mrs Mapp Deputy Headteacher
