Attendance
At The Bewbush Academy, we are working hard to improve attendance and punctuality.
We are very grateful for all the support we receive from parentrs and carers who ensure that their children attend school reguarly and punctuality. This allows teachers the best possible opportunity to support our pupils to reach their full potential.
Poor attendance and punctuality will negatively impact your child’s learning, friendships, self-esteem and confidence. If your child is not at school, they cannot benefit from all the fantastic opportunities we offer.
Our gates open at 8.40 and we expect children to be in their class by 8.50am, ready for registration. Lateness causes disruption to the class.
You should make every effort to get your child to school, even with a minor illness. We will always contact you if your child’s health deteriorates. Please make sure we have at least 2 up-to-date contact numbers for you – we need to be able to call you in an emergency.
If your child is unwell enough to be absent from school, you must phone on 01293 534897, or send a message on the School Gateway app by 9.00 am on each and every day of absence.
Let the school know in advance if there is a planned absence such as a medical appointment and provide evidence such as an appointment card. Where possible make medical / dental appointments outside of school hours or in the holidays.
Medical evidence is required for every absence; if this is not provided by the parent/carer, the absence may be treated as unauthorised.
There are 175 non-school days each year for holidays and appointments. The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 were amended in September 2013 to state that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time, except in very exceptional circumstances. Any holidays that are taken without this agreement will be recorded as unauthorised.
Attendance Rewards
At The Bewbush Academy, we think it is important to reward children for good attendance. Therefore we have a number of rewards children can win throughout the year.
-
If your child is in school every day across a week, on a Friday their name is added to an attendance wheel that gets spun in their classroom. If the wheel lands on them they receive a prize.
-
Each Friday, classes that have a combined percentage of 95% or above are added to the class attendance wheel and this gets spun in assembly. If their class wins, they receive extra playtime the week after.
-
If a class achieves 100% attendance across the week, they will receive a whole class reward.
-
We put on Christmas and Easter raffles where tickets are given to those children who receive 100% attendance each week over a number of weeks so multiple tickets can be earned!
Please support us in getting your child to school everyday, as every day does count!
